Semana Santa in Guate

Semana Santa is the Holy Week, the week before Easter Sunday and is perhaps the biggest holiday of the year in Guatemala. The entire week is full with of solemn activities that replicate the passion and crucifixion of Jesus.

Colourful carpets are laid out along the processional routes and heavy floats which can weight up to several tons are carried on the shoulders of devoted Guatemalans. Guatemala City is famous for its celebration and thousands of national visitors flock to the city to witness the dramatic happenings:
