Thakhek, Laos, March 14

If you go southward from Vientiane you will most likely travel through or end up in Thakhek, a small Mekong town. Don’t just skip it but give yourself some days and rent a motorbike for the Thakhek loop, a 450km drive done in 3+ days (or less if you’re a bit crazy) through a constant changing scenery of limestone mountains, caves, lakes, rivers, pine forest etc. Well worth the effort despite the bumpy, dusty roads (they are working on it…) and sore behinds.
